Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance presents the 3rd biennial Royal Greenwich String Quartet Festival from 11-13 April, headlined by the world premi\u00e8re of the award-winning composer Deirdre Gribbin\u2019s new work, Hearing Your Genes Evolve, <\/em>commissioned by MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge University.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Leading string quartet, Quatuor Mosa\u00efques will be performing together with Quartet Arcadia which won the prestigious Wigmore Hall London International String Quartet Competition 2012. The renowned Carducci Quartet, and the Benyounes Quartet will feature in the main concerts alongside the Smith Quartet, which will perform the premi\u00e8re by Deirdre Gribbin in the iconic Cutty Sark Performance Space.<\/p>\n

The Festival\u2019s Artistic Director, David Kenedy, says:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe string quartet\u2019s extraordinary repertoire is arguably the most important form of classical chamber music making. Trinity Laban\u2019s musical training teaches instrumental excellence as its basis, while ensuring that the learning we offer is at the 21st century conservatoire\u2019s contemporary and cutting edge.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis year\u2019s Festival reflects the whole sweep of string quartet music through concerts, competitions, talks and masterclasses – from Quatuor <\/em><\/strong>Mosa\u00efques<\/em><\/strong>, Haydn and Werner to the Smith Quartet, Deirdre Gribbin and evolving genetic theory – and offers a unique opportunity to support, promote and celebrate all that is exceptional about the genre among a new generation of musicians.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Gribbin\u2019s work is particularly noteworthy, as the artist says the genesis of the work draws inspiration from the possibility of using music to help non-scientists understand the principles of DNA and the genetic code.<\/p>\n
