{"id":6378,"date":"2021-04-15T20:24:27","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T19:24:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.larkreviews.co.uk\/?p=6378"},"modified":"2021-04-16T18:43:19","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T17:43:19","slug":"isata-kanneh-mason-performs-clara-schumann-coleridge-taylor-gubaidulina-st-georges-bristol-polyphonic-concert-club-15th-april-2021-available-until-29th-april-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/?p=6378","title":{"rendered":"Isata Kanneh-Mason performs Clara Schumann, Coleridge-Taylor &#038; Gubaidulina St George\u2019s Bristol, Polyphonic Concert Club 15th April 2021 \u2013 available until 29th April 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.polyphonic.club\/\">www.polyphonic.club<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Polyphonic Concert Club concerts are a collaboration between television production company <em>Polyphonic Films <\/em>Ltd, artists and three leading arts venues outside of London: Bristol\u2019s St George\u2019s, Manchester\u2019s Stoller Hall and York\u2019s National Centre for Early Music.<\/p>\n<p>As with all such online experiences there is the benefit of uninterrupted listening, a front row seat with excellent views and no rush to catch the last train home!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/174796.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6381\" src=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/174796.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/174796.jpeg 660w, https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/174796-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/174796-500x281.jpeg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason brings her assured but graceful presence to the platform and draws the listener in from her opening bars. This \u201cpersonal selection of poignant music\u201d is a beautifully programmed, contrasted set of piano works from names that may be familiar but are not really mainstream. Bookended with substantial works by Clara Schumann the concert begins with the <em>Piano Sonata in G minor<\/em> and ends with the <em>Scherzo No 2 in C minor<\/em>. A varied selection of song arrangements from Coleridge-Taylor\u2019s <em>24 Negro Melodies<\/em>and the dramatic posturing of Gubaidulina\u2019s <em>Chaconne<\/em> provide much interest. The reflective <em>Notturno <\/em>returns us to Clara Schumann before the final work.<\/p>\n<p>Beautiful music in fine performances form a pianist who communicates so well.
