A whole CD of solo works for natural horn \u2013 and one which is surprisingly easy to listen to. The works all originate from the late 17<sup>th<\/sup> century <em>stylus fantasticus<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/?attachment_id=616\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/platinum1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the Dark<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Platinum Consort; Scott Inglis-Kidger<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>RES 10110\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 58.04<\/p>\n<p>All of the music on this CD is drawn from the Tenebrae tradition of scores written specifically for the last three days of Holy Week. Works range across national boundaries to include Anerio, Lotti, Victoria Lassus and Purcell. It also includes a recent works by Richard Bates and James Macmillan. Bates\u2019 <em>In the Dark<\/em> is a gentle setting of an Easter verse by the Elizabeth poet George Gascoigne, while his <em>Tenebrae <\/em>follow the Latin text. The concluding <em>Miserere <\/em>by Macmillan is both moving and devotional.<\/p>\n<p>The vocal balance is striking throughout.
