Theatre in Hastings on Saturday September 21st with an exuberant<\/h6>\n
production of Gilbert & Sullivan\u2019s Pirates of Penzance.<\/em> Buckle your<\/h6>\n
swash and enjoy an evening packed full of sentimental pirates,<\/h6>\n
blundering policemen, absurd adventures, improbable paradoxes –<\/h6>\n
and realistic women. A cocktail of Victorian light party fun with a<\/h6>\n
twist of Merry Opera.<\/h6>\n

Founded by someone who got fed up with falling asleep in operas,<\/h6>\n
Merry Opera <\/strong>is a professional company that has been touring for<\/h6>\n
the last 10 years, developing a reputation for staging classic operas<\/h6>\n
with a cheeky twist. This tour takes us to theatres across the UK, a<\/h6>\n
Wetherspoon pub in Tunbridge Wells and the Cutty Sark ship in<\/h6>\n
Greenwich.<\/h6>\n

Opera Now magazine wrote: ‘Merry Opera has a nice line in these<\/h6>\n
slightly off-beat touring shows, performing them with charm,<\/h6>\n
energy and wit’. The Daily Telegraph wrote: ‘The future of opera is<\/h6>\n
being seeded here, and it needs nurturing’.<\/h6>\n

Our singers go on to Glyndebourne, Grange Park, Wexford and<\/h6>\n
young artists’ programmes in Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Freiburg. The<\/h6>\n
leading ladies in our la Traviata which we toured to Malaysia in<\/h6>\n
2012 were snapped up by Wexford and Vienna for that same role.<\/h6>\n
One of our singers won the UK Bayreuth Wagner prize and has since<\/h6>\n
sung at the Royal Opera House and the Festival Hall.<\/h6>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Pirates is directed by John Ramster<\/strong>, who trained under Clare<\/h6>\n
Venables at Glyndebourne and now combines teaching opera<\/h6>\n
stagecraft at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Guildhall in<\/h6>\n
London with an international career. His work takes him to Serbia,<\/h6>\n
Portugal, Denmark, France, Finland and most recently Norway,<\/h6>\n
where he directed Wagner\u2019s Flying Dutchman, and will take him to<\/h6>\n
Iceland in 2019. He has created original operas for Merry Opera,<\/h6>\n
including a staged production of Handel\u2019s Messiah that has been<\/h6>\n
touring to much acclaim to churches every year since 2011.<\/h6>\n
