The large audience had a very entertaining, interesting and enjoyable evening.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Londonium-8-19.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5453\" src=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Londonium-8-19.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"163\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Londonium-8-19.png 310w, https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Londonium-8-19-300x158.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The choir\u2019s repertoire was far reaching, innovative and exciting.\u00a0 We had a wide variety of pieces from a wide variety of composers, Stanford, Grieg, Holst, Rheinberger, Ireland, Chilcott, Chatman, Vaughan-Willaims, Campion, Brahms, Gabrieli and Purcell.\u00a0 There was something there for everybody.\u00a0 We ranged from Sea Shanties by Holst to Rheinberger\u2019s <em>Mass in E flat<\/em> and in between the humour of <em>Clocks <\/em>by Stephen Chatman, the romance of <em>Lasso, amor transporta<\/em> by Gabrieli\u00a0 and the charm of Vaughan-Williams <em>Shakespeare songs<\/em>.\u00a0 It was a superb evening.<\/p>\n<p>We also heard a variety of languages; Latin, German and Italian which, as well as the English, were clearly enunciated.<\/p>\n<p>The 38 member choir\u2019s singing was balanced, distinct, harmonious, controlled and enchanting. \u00a0It is a strong body, well conducted and controlled, each part complimenting the other. \u00a0The <em>Ave Maria <\/em>by Holst was particularly well executed by the upper voices.\u00a0 Using a Soprano Soloist for the first verse of <em>Fairest Isle<\/em> by Purcell (arranged by Andrew Griffith) was a magical moment. Thank you. \u00a0Oh, and there were some lovely bass and tenor voices too.<\/p>\n<p>It was perceivable that the conducting of Andrew Griffith was both light and exacting. His relationship with his voices was obviously one that demanded, within the bond of friendship, respect and loyalty. And the choir did just that. It was beautiful to watch and hear.\u00a0 His dress gave one the impression that he has an aspiration to become a clergyman. He would probably do very well.\u00a0 If his ministry were to become half as good as his musical direction his churches would be full.<\/p>\n<p>But overall, thank you for a choir that clearly, clearly looked like it was enjoying itself. Smiling, satisfied, pleasant faces.
