{"id":4022,"date":"2018-01-05T10:15:55","date_gmt":"2018-01-05T10:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.larkreviews.co.uk\/?p=4022"},"modified":"2018-01-05T10:15:55","modified_gmt":"2018-01-05T10:15:55","slug":"bath-camerata-bach-st-john-passion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/?p=4022","title":{"rendered":"Bath Camerata: Bach St John Passion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Bath Camerata to perform JS Bach\u2019s \u2018St John Passion\u2019 with world-class Evangelist, James Gilchrist<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On Saturday 3rd February 2018 Bath Camerata will be joined by leading soloists and instrumentalists to perform JS Bach\u2019s dramatic masterpiece, the St John Passion, in St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/James-Gilchrist.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4023\" src=\"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/James-Gilchrist.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"276\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>James Gilchrist, a frequent soloist at the BBC Proms and one of the world\u2019s greatest Evangelists, will sing the central role in this performance, alongside soloists Elizabeth Cragg (soprano), Robin Blaze (countertenor), Joshua Ellicott (tenor) and Giles Underwood (bass), all widely regarded as the finest interpreters of this music.<\/p>\n<p>Accompanying the performance will be some of the best baroque players in Europe , led by Kati Debretzeni, Leader of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. The St John Passion tells the story of Jesus\u2019 last days; His betrayal, the denial, His burial and resurrection. It captures the drama, sadness and anger of the crowds, setting movements of vivid excitement against moments of startling beauty and compassion.<\/p>\n<p>St Mary Redcliffe is a masterpiece of Gothic Architecture. Sited on the \u2018red\u2019 cliffs above the floating harbour for over 800 years, the church\u2019s ancestry at at the heart of the local shipping industry is reflected in the carved bosses, elegant 18th century ironwork, beautiful stained glass windows, and in more contemporary pieces such as the chapel altar dedicated to St John.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are priced at \u00a328, \u00a322, \u00a315, \u00a310 with under 25s half price.
