{"id":3697,"date":"2017-07-28T09:13:51","date_gmt":"2017-07-28T08:13:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.larkreviews.co.uk\/?p=3697"},"modified":"2017-07-28T09:13:51","modified_gmt":"2017-07-28T08:13:51","slug":"brighton-early-music-festival-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/?p=3697","title":{"rendered":"Brighton Early Music Festival 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">BRIGHTON EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL: ROOTS \u2013 27<sup>TH<\/sup>\u00a0OCTOBER &#8211; 12<sup>TH<\/sup>\u00a0NOVEMBER 2017<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"m_5563197412971870637aolmail_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b><i><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cIf it&#8217;s Early Music you&#8217;re looking for, then get yourself down to Brighton\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Classic FM<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"m_5563197412971870637aolmail_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"m_5563197412971870637aolmail_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Brighton Early Music Festival launched its programme for 2017 on\u00a0Tuesday 25<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0July\u00a0at Angel House \u2013 a beautiful Regency venue on Brighton\u2019s seafront.\u00a0\u00a02017 explores the origins of some of classical music\u2019s best-loved forms, and is the Festival\u2019s biggest ever offering with over 30 events taking place this autumn.\u00a0\u00a0Festival Co-Artistic Director Deborah Roberts says\u00a0<i>\u201cthis year\u2019s programme is a fascinating journey through the early development of the musical forms we know and love today.\u00a0\u00a0The oratorio, sonata, string quartet and opera didn\u2019t spring into being fully formed, but grew organically out of earlier models, and of course there\u2019s also the chance to explore the rich tapestry of folk music which humans have enjoyed for centuries.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"m_5563197412971870637aolmail_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"m_5563197412971870637aolmail_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The 2017 festival has the title\u00a0<b>ROOTS\u00a0<\/b>with flagship events including two new opera productions \u2013 Monteverdi\u2019s\u00a0<b><i>Orfeo\u00a0<\/i><\/b>and Rameau\u2019s\u00a0<b><i>Pygmalion<\/i>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">which \u2018bookend\u2019 the early period of operatic development.\u00a0\u00a0<i>Orfeo\u00a0<\/i>will be staged at The Old Market in Hove, in a new production by Thomas Guthrie featuring a cast of specially auditioned young singers headed by tenor Rory Carver as Orfeo, while\u00a0<i>Pygmalion<\/i>\u00a0is a new staging by Karolina Sofulak in collaboration with baroque group Ensemble Moli\u00e8re.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"m_5563197412971870637aolmail_MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"m_5563197412971870637aolmail_MsoNormal\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The Festival is well known for its championing of young artists through its scheme for emerging ensembles,\u00a0<i>Early Music Live!<\/i>\u00a0This year, many of the groups performing at the Festival have previously taken part in the Early Music Live!
