{"id":327,"date":"2012-07-12T15:03:04","date_gmt":"2012-07-12T14:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.larkreviews.co.uk\/?p=327"},"modified":"2012-07-12T15:06:16","modified_gmt":"2012-07-12T14:06:16","slug":"welsh-national-opera-2012-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.larkreviews.wickedlemon.co.uk\/?p=327","title":{"rendered":"Welsh National Opera: 2012-13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Performances of Welsh National Opera\u2019s critically acclaimed new production of <em>La boh\u00e8me<\/em> continue this Autumn Season together with the return of Ben Davis\u2019s seaside-set <em>Cos\u00ec fan tutte <\/em>and Katie Mitchell\u2019s fully staged version of Handel\u2019s oratorio <em>Jephtha<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WNO\u2019s MAX department take doctor\u2019s orders and bring music to the wards of a hospital for year two of our North Wales residency.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>La boh\u00e8me<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alex Vicens<\/strong> returns as Rodolfo and is joined by <strong>Giselle Allen <\/strong>as Mimi in <strong>Annabel Arden\u2019s<\/strong> 1913 inspired pre-war production<em>.\u00a0 <\/em>Highly praised by critics and audiences alike when it opened in Cardiff this summer, these further performances will see <em>La boh\u00e8me<\/em> tour extensively in Wales and England.\u00a0 This production also features <strong>David Kempster<\/strong> as Marcello, <strong>Piotr Lempa<\/strong> as Colline, <strong>Daniel Grice <\/strong>as Schaunard and Kate Valentine as <strong>Musetta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michelle Walton <\/strong>and <strong>Shaun Dixon <\/strong>will<strong> <\/strong>perform Mimi and Rodolfo at some performances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simon Phillippo<\/strong> will conduct, with <strong>Andrew Greenwood <\/strong>taking over the baton in Liverpool and Bristol.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cos\u00ec fan tutte<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A young cast features in <strong>Ben Davis\u2019s<\/strong> 1960s British seaside version of <em>Cos\u00ec fan tutte<\/em> with <strong>Elizabeth Watts <\/strong>as Fiordiligi, <strong>Cora Burggraaf <\/strong>as Dorabella,<strong> Joanne Boag<\/strong> as Despina<strong> <\/strong>and <strong>Andrew Tortise <\/strong>as Ferrando.\u00a0 In a change to previously advertised casting, <strong>Gary Griffiths<\/strong> returns as <strong>Guglielmo<\/strong>.\u00a0 Gary, who recently won the chance to represent Wales in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition 2013, received critical praise for his interpretation of the role when this production was first performed in 2011.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Wigglesworth <\/strong>will conduct all performances except in Llandudno, when <strong>James Southall<\/strong> will conduct.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jephtha<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>British tenor <strong>Robert Murray<\/strong> makes his WNO debut in the title role of this revival of Katie Mitchell\u2019s <strong>Jephtha<\/strong>. Set in a war ravaged 1940s Europe,<em> Jephtha <\/em>sees <strong>Fflur Wyn <\/strong>returning to the role of Iphis which she last performed for WNO in this production in 2006.
