These productions alongside\u00a0<em>Rodelinda<\/em>\u00a0won him the 2015 Outstanding Achievement in Opera award while\u00a0<em>The Mastersingers of Nuremberg<\/em>\u00a0(which originated at Welsh National Opera) won Best New Opera Production at the Olivier Awards in 2015.<\/p>\n<p><em>Don Giovanni<\/em>\u00a0is an exhilarating retelling of the legends of Don Juan. Combining comedy and tragedy, it follows Giovanni\u2019s final hours as he lusts his way towards his dramatic demise. Filled with Mozart\u2019s glorious music it includes the famous \u2018Catalogue\u2019 aria which details the long list of Giovanni\u2019s lovers.<\/p>\n<p>Director Richard Jones is joined by set designer Paul Steinberg (who created the set for\u00a0<em>The Mastersingers of Nuremberg<\/em>), costume design by Nicky Gillibrand (who created the costumes for\u00a0<em>The Girl of the Golden West<\/em>), lighting design by Mimi Jordan Sherin (<em>The Girl of the Golden West<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The Mastersingers of Nuremberg<\/em>) and movement direction by Sarah Fahie. Former ENO Music Director Mark Wigglesworth returns to conduct.<\/p>\n<p>A regular collaborator with Richard Jones, British bass-baritone Christopher Purves sings the title role. He last performed with ENO in the UK premiere of Philip Glass\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Perfect American,<\/em>\u00a0where he gave an \u2018inspired\u2019 performance (The Guardian).\u00a0 Other notable roles with the Company include Mephistopheles in Terry Gilliam\u2019s five star production of\u00a0<em>The Damnation of Faust<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>British Bass Clive Bayley is Leporello, Don Giovanni\u2019s servant. He most recently performed with the Company in\u00a0<em>Akhnaten<\/em>\u00a0as Aye. Other roles for ENO include Daland in\u00a0<em>The Flying Dutchman\u00a0<\/em>and the Three Villains\u00a0and Coppelius in\u00a0<em>The Tales of Hoffmann<\/em>\u00a0(both 2012).<\/p>\n<p>American soprano Caitlin Lynch makes her UK debut with ENO as Donna Anna. She made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera, New York in 2013 as\u00a0Biancofiore in\u00a0<em>Francesca da Rimini and<\/em>\u00a0performed the role of Cynthia in Nico Muhly\u2019s\u00a0<em>Two Boys<\/em>\u00a0(also at the Metropolitan Opera) in a co-production with ENO.\u00a0 She has sung Donna Anna with Pittsburgh and Michigan Opera.<\/p>\n<p>Former ENO Harewood Artist and British tenor Allan Clayton returns to ENO to sing Don Ottavio. He last performed with the Company as Tamino in the revival of Simon McBurney\u2019s production of\u00a0<em>The Magic Flute<\/em>\u00a0for ENO in February 2016.\u00a0<em>The Times<\/em>\u00a0commented that he \u2018sings with guileless beauty and liquid top notes\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>British mezzo-soprano Christine Rice makes her role debut as Donna Elvira. She last performed with ENO as \u2018a richly expressive Dorabella\u2019 (<em>Daily Telegraph<\/em>) in Phelim McDermott\u2019s production of\u00a0<em>Cos\u00ec fan tutti.\u00a0<\/em>Other notable roles for the Company include Marguerite in\u00a0<em>The Damnation of Faust<\/em>\u00a0and Arsace in\u00a0<em>Partenope<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Former ENO Harewood Artist Mary Bevan sings Zerlina, a role she has previously performed at Garsington Opera. She has performed numerous roles for ENO including Yum-Yum in\u00a0<em>The Mikado,\u00a0<\/em>Despina in Phelim McDermott\u2019s production of\u00a0<em>Cos<\/em><em>\u00ed<\/em><em>\u00a0fan tutte<\/em>, the second niece in David Alden\u2019s critically acclaimed revival of\u00a0<em>Peter Grimes<\/em>\u00a0in 2014 and Papagena in Simon McBurney\u2019s new production of\u00a0<em>The Magic Flute<\/em>\u00a0in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrated American bass James Creswell is the Commendatore. His previous roles for ENO include Oreveso in\u00a0<em>Norma,\u00a0<\/em>Padre Guardiano in\u00a0<em>The Force of Destiny<\/em>, Pogner in Richard Jones\u2019s Olivier Award-winning production of\u00a0<em>The Mastersingers of Nuremberg<\/em>\u00a0and Sarastro in Simon McBurney\u2019s production of\u00a0<em>The Magic Flute<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The cast is completed by British bass Nicholas Crawley as Masetto. He made his ENO debut as Larkens in Richard Jones\u2019s production of<em>The Girl of the Golden West<\/em>\u00a0and also appeared as the Nightwatchman in Jones\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Mastersingers of Nuremberg<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Don Giovanni\u00a0<\/em>opens on<em>\u00a0<\/em>Friday 30 September 2016 at 7.00pm for 10 performances\u00a0\u2013\u00a030 September, 4, 7, 13, 15, 18, 21, 24, 16 October at 7pm, 9 October at 3pm.<\/p>\n<p>500 tickets for \u00a320 or less are available for each performance.
