Next weekend<\/span>\u00a0the St. Nicolas and St. Wilfrid\u2019s annual f\u00eate will be held at\u00a0Pevensey Memorial Hall from 11.00-4.00 pm<\/b>.\u00a0 Entrance is free. In addition to the\u00a0traditional stalls and games<\/span>\u2013 there\u2019s an opportunity to chance your hand at bell ringing, Refreshments will be available in the in the hall or beer tent. At\u00a02:00 PM<\/b>\u00a0there will be a\u00a0Smart Mutts Dog Obedience Demonstration<\/b>!\u00a0\u00a0Does your dog measure up to the Smart Mutts Standard? Fun and frolics with the doggies\u00a0<\/span>from 2: 00 PM !<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Thursday 4th<\/sup>\u00a0August –<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Lunchtime Organ Recital at 12:30 PM<\/b><\/span>\u00a0at St. Nicolas Church.<\/span><\/p>\n

The recital is being given by John Collins, organist at St. George’s, Worthing since June 1984. His special interests include European keyboard repertoires from ca1500-1800 in which areas he gives regular recitals. He also undertakes research and lectures for the Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Organists.<\/span><\/p>\n

Appropriately John\u2019s third annual lunchtime concert this year has the theme of \u2018Anniversaries\u2019. 2016 sees the anniversaries of several European organ composers, and the recital includes compositions by some of these, or by those who were composing when Shakespeare and Cervantes died four hundred years ago; when the church itself was already 400 years old! The programme includes an arrangement of the \u2018Hallelujah Chorus\u2019, and Charles Wesley\u2019s Arrangement of \u2018God Save the King\u2019 – see<\/span><\/span>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R9WpZFY-tTE<\/span>\u00a0(and enjoy the pictures of some of London\u2019s churches)!<\/span><\/p>\n

John encourages you to bring your own lunch and enjoy the music, even talk to your neighbours, as audiences would have done when the music was composed. Light refreshments will be available afterwards.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Saturday August 27th<\/sup>\u00a0to\u00a0 Monday August 29<\/span>th\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>:\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>3-Day Flower Festival<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The Festival title is\u00a0“Celebrating 800 Years of St. Nicolas Church in Flowers”.\u00a0<\/b>This is one of the most popular events of our year and visitors regularly come from far and wide to see the magnificent displays.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the strength of our Festival\u2019s overall high standard last year the church\u2019s flower display team were invited to exhibit at the Chichester \u2018Festival of Flowers\u2019 in early June, as the only team invited from East Sussex. Their display \u2018Monet\u2019s Garden\u2019 was viewed and admired by thousands of visitors.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, in our 800th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary year at St. Nicolas, we are concentrating on decorating the main features of our church. Therefore the \u2018show case\u2019 flower displays will be showing around 20 displays overall, including the Altar, Pulpit, Organ, Choir, Font and of course many of the Windows.\u00a0 In other words, the usual areas will be artistically decorated, including the aisle and pillars.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Entrance \u00a32.\u00a0 Children have free entry.<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n
