The main season will expand from three to four opera productions annually, and will see the start of a partnership with the Philharmonia Orchestra. In addition, next year\u00a0 there will be a large scale, newly commissioned community opera.<\/h6>\n<p>The season will open with a new production of <strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Handel\u2019s\u00a0<i>Semel<\/i>e<\/span><\/strong> to be conducted by\u00a0<b>Jonathan Cohen<\/b>\u00a0with\u00a0\u00a0<b>Annilese Miskimmon\u00a0<\/b>directing.\u00a0 The Philharmonia Orchestra will be joining for a new production of\u00a0<i><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Pell\u00e9as et M\u00e9lisande<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/i>with\u00a0<i><\/i>conductor\u00a0<b>Jac van Steen<\/b>\u00a0and director\u00a0<b>Michael Boyd.\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<b>John Cox\u2019s<\/b>\u00a0celebrated production of\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><i>Le nozze di Figaro<\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>will be recreated for the Wormsley stage, conducted by\u00a0<b>Douglas Boyd ,<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Martin Duncan\u2019s<\/b>\u00a0acclaimed production of Rossini\u2019s<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>\u00a0<i>Il turco in Italia<\/i>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>will be conducted by\u00a0<b>David Parry<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><i>Silver Birch<\/i>,<\/strong><\/span> a new commission by composer\u00a0<b>Roxanna Panufnik<\/b>\u00a0and librettist\u00a0<b>Jessica Duchen<\/b>, uniting professional artists with 170 members of the local community, will be presented by Garsington Opera\u2019s Learning and Participation programme.\u00a0 It will be conducted by\u00a0<b>Douglas Boyd<\/b>\u00a0and directed by\u00a0<b>Karen Gillingham<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2017 Garsington Opera will extend to an eight week season from Thursday 1 June \u2013 Sunday 30 July.
