Following Garsington Opera for All\u2019s successful first year of public screenings in isolated coastal and rural communities, Tchaikovsky\u2019s powerful opera\u00a0Eugene Onegin<\/i>\u00a0will be screened\u00a0in\u00a0four areas across the UK. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Free events are programmed for\u00a0Skegness (2\u00a0July),\u00a0Ramsgate (25 – 30 July),\u00a0Bridgewater (20 August) and Grimsby (30 September).\u00a0 Garsington Opera’s 2015 production of Mozart\u2019s\u00a0Cos<\/i>\u00ec<\/i>\u00a0fan tutte<\/i>\u00a0will be also be screened this year\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0Buckingham\u00a0Fringe Festival (11 June) and Marlow Town Festival\u00a0(12 June). \u00a0<\/strong><\/span>In each location a large-scale programme of education and outreach work is firmly integrated with the digital free public screenings and will provide ground breaking opportunities for communities to be involved in creating, learning about, and performing opera\u00a0.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Opera for All is a programme which challenges expectation by uncovering the ingredients and foundation of opera – drama, music, story-telling and expressive emotion. \u00a0In 2015\u00a0Opera for All\u2019s\u00a0touring participation programme involved over 1000 young people taking part in creative residencies at both primary and secondary schools.\u00a0 For the students in each of the 25 schools, the experience of\u00a0working alongside a team of professional artists to create and perform their own pieces in relation to the opera that was screened, was transformative.\u00a0\u00a0For many it was their first experience of live professional singing and it set confidence and aspiration soaring.<\/p>\n

Grant Edgar, Associate Head, Skegness Grammar commented:\u00a0\u2018The confidence that the young people can develop by performing challenging tasks, really takes them out of their comfort zone. To see them \u2018buzzing\u2019 from the experience is really very pleasing indeed\u2019<\/i><\/p>\n

Opera for All is a three-year partnership project between Garsington Opera, the charitable trust Magna Vitae, and the Coastal Communities Alliance, and is supported by Arts Council England\u2019s Strategic Touring Fund.<\/p>\n

Tchaikovsky\u2019s powerful and moving opera\u00a0Eugene Onegin<\/i>\u00a0(director Michael Boyd, designer Tom Piper, conductor Douglas Boyd) about youth and first love, features British baritone\u00a0Roderick Williams<\/b>\u00a0in the title role and Welsh soprano\u00a0Natalya Romaniw<\/b>\u00a0singing the young heroine Tatyana.\u00a0 Mozart\u2019s\u00a0Cos<\/i>\u00ec<\/i>\u00a0fan\u00a0<\/i>tutte featuring international star\u00a0Lesley Garrett<\/b>, is a bittersweet comedy in which real people face real and painful predicaments.<\/p>\n
