It will focus on poets and the words that shape songs, with many programmes devoted to specific poets and a series of related cultural events.<\/p>\n<p>The opening recital of the Festival will be given by superstar duo\u00a0<b>Sarah Connolly\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>Graham Johnson\u00a0<\/b>(16 Oct), who perform Schubert, Brahms and Wolf.\u00a0<b>Sophie Kart\u00e4user\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>Eugene Asti\u00a0<\/b>(17 Oct) will explore M\u00f6rike and \u00c9luard via the music of Wolf, Schumann and Poulenc. Former BBC Cardiff Singer of the World winner\u00a0<b>Katarina Karn\u00e9us\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>Stephan Loges\u00a0<\/b>join Festival director\u00a0<b>Sholto Kynoch\u00a0<\/b>for an evening devoted to settings of Goethe (18 Oct). Other recital highlights include performances given by\u00a0<b>Elizabeth Watts\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>Julius Drake\u00a0<\/b>(20 Oct),\u00a0<b>Matthew Rose\u00a0<\/b>(30 Oct) and\u00a0<b>Christoph Pr\u00e9gardien\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>Roger Vignoles\u00a0<\/b>(31 Oct).\u00a0<b>Anna St\u00e9phany\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>Sholto Kynoch\u00a0<\/b>perform a major new song cycle commissioned by Oxford Lieder from\u00a0<b>Rhian Samuel<\/b>\u00a0(28 Oct), and\u00a0<b>John Mark Ainsley<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Catherine Hopper<\/b>\u00a0perform a programme of Shakespeare in Music (21 Oct). The Festival will also feature an event devoted to Mary Stuart, with music by Schumann and new works by\u00a0<b>Judith Bingham<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Eddie McGuire<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Dee Isaacs<\/b>.\u00a0<b>Imogen Cooper\u00a0<\/b>will be Artist in Residence, giving recitals with\u00a0<b>Wolfgang Holzmair\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>Henk Neven<\/b>, as well as a solo performance and masterclasses.<\/p>\n<p>A lunchtime recital series will feature the complete songs of Gabriel Faur\u00e9 (paired with Schubert songs), with artists including\u00a0<b>Lucy Crowe\u00a0<\/b>(27 Oct)<b>\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>James Gilchrist\u00a0<\/b>(20 Oct). This series will be launched at a lecture-recital weekend with<b>Graham Johnson<\/b>\u00a0(17 &amp; 18 Oct), whose series\u00a0<i>Schubert\u2019s Life &amp; Times<\/i>\u00a0was a Festival highlight for many in 2014. There will be a study day on the life and songs of Hector Berlioz (24 Oct), with speakers to include the author of the definitive Berlioz biography,\u00a0<b>David Cairns<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Chamber, instrumental and choral works, with artists including the\u00a0<b>Doric String Quartet<\/b>\u00a0(20 &amp; 26 Oct), the\u00a0<b>Phoenix Piano Trio<\/b>\u00a0(22 Oct) and\u00a0<b>Tom Poster\u00a0<\/b>(23 Oct), will be heard throughout the Festival, in addition to a wide range of talks, readings, and other events. Masterclasses will be given by artists including\u00a0<b>Robert Holl<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Ann Murray<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Roger Vignoles<\/b>.
