Around this unparalleled body of work \u2013 some 650 songs by the age of just 31 \u2013 the city of Oxford will be buzzing with other Lieder Festival events planned to illuminate the songs and bring to life the world that Schubert inhabited.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival is launched with a stellar cast of tenors and baritones (<b>John Mark Ainsley<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Joshua Ellicott<\/b>,\u00a0<b>James Gilchrist<\/b>,<b>Daniel Norman<\/b>\u00a0\/\u00a0<b>Neal Davies,<\/b>\u00a0<b>William Dazeley<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Stephan Loges<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Christopher Maltman<\/b>) joined by mezzo soprano<b>Sarah Connolly\u00a0<\/b>for songs, partsongs and the exquisite serenade,\u00a0<i>Z\u00f6gernd leise<\/i>\u00a0(10 Oct).\u00a0 In more than 60 concerts, singers include\u00a0<b>Sir Thomas Allen<\/b>\u00a0(25 Oct),<b>\u00a0Ian Bostridge\u00a0<\/b>(16 Oct),\u00a0<b>Christiane Karg<\/b>\u00a0(21 Oct),\u00a0<b>Susan Gritton\u00a0<\/b>(26 Oct),<b>Dietrich Henschel<\/b>\u00a0(17 Oct),\u00a0<b>Robert Holl<\/b>\u00a0(28 Oct),\u00a0<b>Wolfgang Holzmair<\/b>\u00a0(30 Oct),\u00a0<b>Sophie Karth\u00e4use<\/b>r (11 Oct),\u00a0<b>Angelika Kirchschlager<\/b>\u00a0(29 Oct),\u00a0<b>Jonathan Lemalu\u00a0<\/b>(1 Nov),<b>\u00a0Mark Padmore\u00a0<\/b>(24 Oct),\u00a0<b>Christoph Pr\u00e9gardien<\/b>\u00a0(19 Oct),<b>Maximilian Schmitt<\/b>\u00a0(28 Oct),\u00a0<b>Sylvia Schwartz\u00a0<\/b>(11 Oct),\u00a0<b>Birgid Steinberger<\/b>\u00a0(11 Oct),\u00a0<b>Kate Royal\u00a0<\/b>(13 Oct) and<b>Roderick Williams\u00a0<\/b>(15 Oct), alongside emerging stars including\u00a0<b>Allan Clayton<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Anna Lucia Richter,<\/b>\u00a0<b>Martin Haessler, Christoph Pohl\u00a0<\/b>and many others. They will be joined by the world&#8217;s leading pianists, including\u00a0<b>Thomas Ad\u00e8s<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Eugene Asti,<\/b>\u00a0<b>Imogen Cooper<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Julius Drake<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Bengt Forsberg<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Graham Johnson<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Malcolm Martineau,<\/b>\u00a0<b>Roger Vignoles\u00a0<\/b>&amp;<b>Justus Zeyen<\/b>. In addition, the\u00a0<b>Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment<\/b>, the\u00a0<b>Doric String Quartet<\/b>\u00a0and the\u00a0<b>Schubert Ensemble<\/b>\u00a0will be performing key chamber works.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<b>Bodleian Library<\/b>\u00a0will show several Schubert manuscripts; the\u00a0<b>Ashmolean Museum<\/b>\u00a0will host live music events and a specially-devised audio guide; there will be four performances of\u00a0 a new play by\u00a0<b>Iain Burnside<\/b>;<b>\u00a0<\/b>Schubert\u2019s\u00a0<b>sacred music<\/b>will resound around college chapels;<b>\u00a0<\/b>the\u00a0<b>Botanic Gardens<\/b>\u00a0will collaborate on a study event looking at Schubert\u2019s relationship with nature; a pop-up theatre will recreate a famous Schubert gathering; and local restaurants will feature Viennese food and wine.
