Top London choir <\/b>Goldsmiths Choral Union<\/span><\/strong> is offering a young musician the chance to shadow and study with their Music Director, Brian Wright. The new role is designed for a student conductor as a two-season Apprenticeship starting in September 2014. Most student choral conducting tuition concentrates on the \u2018a cappella\u2019 repertoire. This is a unique opportunity to study the large-scale \u2018symphonic\u2019 choral repertoire and techniques,\u00a0including\u00a030 individual lessons per season. At the end of the second season it is envisaged the appointee would conduct at a concert.<\/p>\n

Position of Trainee Conductor<\/span>
\nThis new role is designed for a student conductor as a two season
\nApprenticeship starting in September 2014. Most student choral
\nconducting tuition concentrates on the \u201ca cappella\u201d repertoire. This is
\na unique opportunity to study the large-scale \u201csymphonic\u201d choral
\nrepertoire and techniques with GCU\u2019s renowned music staff.
\nThe appointment will be decided by short list, interview and practical
\ncompetition, with choir members involved in the choice. The
\nappointee will shadow the Music Director Brian Wright and also receive
\ntuition from him of approximately 30 lessons per season before GCU\u2019s
\nWednesday evening rehearsals at Baden Powell House in South
\nKensington.
\nFrom time to time the appointee will conduct part of a full rehearsal
\nas a supervised session. He\/she will also have the opportunity to direct
\nsupervised sectional rehearsals. If a pianist, GCU\u2019s accompanist
\nStephen Jones will mentor choir accompaniment skills. At the end of
\nthe second season it is envisaged the appointee would conduct at a
\nGCU concert.
\nGoldsmiths Young Voices Project<\/span>
\nIn addition, GCU has an ambition to establish Goldsmiths Young Voices,
\na SATB youth choir based in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
\nThe new choir could have a regular slot in GCU\u2019s Christmas carol
\nconcerts and participate in any of GCU\u2019s concerts that require young
\nvoices, as well as developing its own repertoire from popular
\narrangements, as on \u201cThe Choir\u201d, to more classical fare. This project
\nis currently in the early \u2018concept stage\u2019, and the Trainee Conductor
\nwould be closely involved in its development, helping bring the idea
